Let's create a widget that will encourage users to try their luck and get product recommendations relevant to their needs. To do this, we use this design from our multi-step form templates:
To customize the template’s entry page for an imaginary shoe store’s multi-step form, we:
- Selected a stock image from the built-in library.
- Cropped it using the built-in editor.
- Adjusted the close button's design and color for visibility.
- Added custom text.
On the entry page, we announce what the user will receive:
Start with Low-Friction Questions
The main goal is to create an inviting first step that’s quick and easy to answer. We start by asking for the user's name by adding the first name field to the form. This lets us use the name on later pages via merge tags, which we’ll set up later.
Add Merge Tags for Personalization
On the next page, we ask about the user's preferred assortment and address them by name. To do this, highlight the placeholder word (‘{Name}’ in our example), click Merge tag, and select First name.
In the editor, ‘Maria’ replaces the selected word, but the user's actual name from the first step will appear in the active widget.
Use Conditional Logic
Personalize the experience by showing relevant follow-up questions based on previous answers. In our system, Conditional logic is implemented by customizing buttons and linking them to corresponding pages in a multi-step form. Simply add the buttons, enter the text, then click each button and go to General > Action on click > Open widget page > Page in the settings.

In our example, the 'Women's' button takes you to page 4, and the 'Men's' button takes you to page 5. So, let's customize them. On these pages, we offer the user the option to choose their shoe size. In this case, women will see the page with women's sizes, and men will see the options corresponding to them.
The pre-designed widget template on these pages uses radio buttons, which we will reuse but change their numbers and text.
You can also use checkbox buttons or dropdowns. It’s simple, requires no typing, and encourages users to move to the next step effortlessly.
Ensure the step numbering is updated to avoid confusing users. Since we're creating separate pages for women and men, numbered as steps 3 and 4 in the editor, both should display as ‘Step 3’.
Configure the ‘Next’ button to skip page 5 (men's sizes) and open page 6 directly. This is how it will look in the published widget:
Collect More Valuable Information
Then, gather some more valuable information for segmentation and email planning, such as the user's buying habits, to tailor offers and timing.
Sometimes users need to fix something they picked earlier — like going back to change their shoe size. No problem! Just pop an extra button onto that step, click it, head over to the General tab, and in the ‘Action on click’ dropdown, pick ‘Previous page’.
