What it solves & why businesses use it

A notification bar is a non-intrusive tool that allows to deliver important updates, announcements, or offers and ensures that it’s visible to all users. It helps businesses:

  • Increase engagement by informing customers about discounts, flash sales, or special offers.

  • Alert users to important changes like shipping delays, new policies, or product updates.

When & how to use it

Notification bars are best set to appear on all pages or only specific pages of the site based on business goals. They can be dismissible or sticky, depending on the urgency and nature of the message. Notification bars can deliver important updates at various stages in the user journey:

  • Promotions & discounts: When running a limited-time offer or seasonal sale to promote the discount across all pages.

  • Shipping information: For ecommerce sites to announce free shipping offers or shipping delays.

  • Product restock: Notify users when an out-of-stock item is back in stock or when new arrivals are available.

  • Important policy updates: Notify customers about new terms of service, privacy policy updates, or website changes.

  • Upcoming events: Promote webinars, product launches, or special events through the notification bar.

  • Product updates: Communicate upcoming product features or releases.

How it looks

A notification bar is typically a narrow, banner-like element displayed at the top or bottom of the screen. It’s designed to be short, clear, and actionable.

  • Text: Brief and to the point, often with a CTA button.

  • Design: Can be customized with colors, fonts, and styling to match the website’s branding.

  • Layout: It can either stay visible at the top of the screen while scrolling, or be set as a sticky bar or dismissible for more persistent or temporary messages.
